France heatwave kills 5,700 in historic June event

France recorded 5,764 excess deaths during a June heatwave, the highest since 2003. Temperatures exceeded 40°C, with the hottest days on June 24-25. Over half of deaths occurred during a three-day peak. Public Health France reported 36% more deaths than expected.
